A Washo or Paiute basket from California or E. Nevada. Very tight weave. This basket, single rod construction, appears to be the work of two different weavers, the base of the basket a different style than the top side. This basket shows the coloration of reed that has been in intense heat for generations. Thin and delicate, areas of loss fragile. Pre-1800.
