An archaic pointed handaxe made using a stone hammer to remove flakes from the sides & all around the periphery. There is a deep natural cavity on one side which gives the handaxe a distinct zoomorphic look. It would have been noticed by the maker of this handaxe as a distinct feature in the flint nodule. The hominid maker has worked around this cavity feature, appearing to have intentionally left it in the prominent position it now occupies on one side. Circa 350,000- 400,000 BC

12cm long.
